Uphill Designs crafts our gear out of the highest quality materials to ensure durability and lasting usability on your adventures whether on the trail or around town. To extend the lifetime of your product, here are some care instructions and useful information.

▶ Leather Care

All Uphill Designs leather products are crafted from vegetable-tanned leather, which is far more eco-friendly than chrome-tanned leather and also needs more care and conditioning. Use a clean, dry cloth (cotton is good) to spread leather conditioner onto the product and then remove any extra. Sunlight will aid in developing a nice patina on the vegetable-tanned leather. We suggest Otterwax's Leather Salve as a suitable conditioner.

▶ Cleaning Cork Handles

Natural cork has a waxy exterior which we've treated with a polymer coating. This means that dirt and grime will come off easily with a bit of warm water, a clean cloth or sponge, and a non-chemical soap.

▶ Using the Appalachian messenger bag biking strap

Our canvas Appalachian messenger bag comes with a chest strap. The strap stores snugly against the back of the bag and unsnaps and adjusts to attach to the buckle in the center of the main shoulder strap.

▶ Cleaning waxed cotton canvas

DO NOT machine wash or machine dry. Our waxed cotton canvas comes embedded with a paraffin/beeswax mix that responds well to warm water and non-chemical soap. Air dry at room temperature.

▶ Reapplying wax

Our waxed cotton canvas is waterproof. Every 6 months to a year, look over your bag and take note of any wear spots. These are spots where the bag rubs during use. Reapply any fabric wax (we suggest Otterwax) with increasing friction until you've coated the problem area.

▶ Warranty policy

Our goal is to handcraft functional durable products that will accompany you for a lifetime of adventure. We are not happy unless your gear is performing well. Please contact us with any defects caused by production and we'll be psyched to help out with a repair or replacement.

▶ Refunds and returns

Uphill Designs is happy to accept returns in exchange for a different product, or for store credit. Please ask us any questions before ordering; we are happy to help and want to create the perfect piece for you. Returns or Exchanges must be in new condition and in original packaging. Include your receipt and contact information or shoot us an email. If you spot a defect, please contact us before use and we'll send a return label for domestic orders.
